About Frank
Valeriote joins the army, for a week

This week it was a staple gun, next week it might be a machine gun.

On Wednesday, Guelph MP Frank Valeriote was stapling vapour barrier sheeting to the outside walls of a new Habitat for Humanity home. The structure is going up on Johnston Street in the historic area of Guelph known as The Ward.

Next week, the rookie MP will be at a military base in Wainwright, Alta., where he will receive army training as part of the Canadian Forces Parliamentary Program.

As he worked at the top of a ladder extended to the second floor, Valeriote had a bird’s-eye view of the neighbourhood where he grew up and of the green-space where he played as a child. The house his grandfather built is across the street from the new dwelling.
