  Guelph climate rally demands action

Waving a United Nations flag amid scores of environmental activists Saturday, University of Guelph professor Nonita Yap carried a sign that read: “Leave the tar in the sand,” a reference to Alberta’s oil-rich soil.

Guelph Liberal MP Frank Valeriote was not to be outdone, accusing the Conservatives of dragging their feet on extending the current international Kyoto climate change agreement.

“It’s terribly disappointing,” Valeriote said in an interview. The MP added he’s personally convinced climate change is “exacerbated” by human activity.

“We can reverse it,” Valeriote added, pointing to European nations that are leading the green revolution and improving the environment while creating jobs at the same time.
